Discover why the Kathmandu Valley is a UNESCO World Heritage Site as we explore three incredible temples within the city. High on a hilltop above Kathmandu is the magnificent Swayambutinath (“Monkey Temple”), used by both Hindus and Buddhists, and known for its many cheeky monkeys! Along the banks of the Bagmati River lies Pashupatinath. It is one of the biggest Shiva temples in the world and is the most important Hindu site in Nepal. Away from the busy city centre is the peaceful and calming Bodnath Stupa. It is here that Tibetans and pilgrims descend upon daily to show their faith and devotion.
For adrenaline seekers this place will not disappoint! Bungy jump off a suspension bridge 160-metres towards the wild Bhote Kosi, swing from the world’s highest canyon swing and experience one of the longest free falls in the world, or abseil, jump and slide down steep canyon walls and waterfalls, the choice is yours.
For the next two days, we stay in luxury safari tents, surrounded by pristine forest and dense jungle, situated on top of a dramatic gorge, 12km from the Tibetan border. After working up an appetite tuck into a tantalizing array of fresh Nepali curries and Western fare. Afterwards, relax, swim in secret waterfalls or indulge in the plunge pool and sauna.
Accommodation, food and canyoning is included in tour price, however any additional activities participated in (canyon swing, bungy jumping, etc) is not included and must be paid on location.
The first day we run the Sun Kosi, honing our rafting technique and warming up for day two – the powerful Bhote Kosi! Starting in Tibet at a height of over 8000m from Shisha Pangma the world’s 14th highest peak, the river gathers speed, strength and volume as it thunders its way through the Himalayas and into Nepal. We raft heart-pounding grade 3+ rapids on the Sun Kosi, reputed to be one of the top ten rafting trips in the world!
Steep, deep, and never ending grade 4/4+ rapids await us as we descend the intense and wild Bhote Kosi. Not for the faint of heart, this river is technically more demanding and commands the respect of its paddlers. The Bhote Kosi is without a doubt the most action packed extreme white water in Nepal!
You can choose to either raft the Bhote Kosi or paddle yourself in a kayak on the Sun Kosi. You can speak with our instructors and make your choice when we are out there. Accommodation is at our secluded riverside camp, surrounded by lush jungle and a white sand beach. It is the perfect place to relax after a hard days rafting.
The morning will be free, spent in Kathmandu. Pick up some fresh baked treats or grab a cuppa from one of the rooftop terraces. The afternoon will be spent in Patan. It is a city standing still in time, and seeping with rich cultural history, yet bustling with the energy of today. A place best explored by foot, we’ll walk the cobbled streets with over 600 stupas whilst discovering ancient pagoda temples. See why local people still call it by its original name, Lalitpur – the City of Beauty.
We drive west, following the gorge of the Trisuli River. Continue past deep river valleys and terraced rice fields as we make our way to the lakeside town of Pokhara. Set amongst the foothills of the stunning Annapurna Massif, Pokhara is a breath of fresh air.
We take a short, but spectacular flight in a light aircraft and land in the remote town of Jomsom. The flight offers unparalleled views of Annapurna (8091m) and Dhaulagiri (8167m), the world’s 7th and 10th highest peaks. We continue via jeep to Muktinath – a breathtaking 3700 metres above sea level. We are surrounded by rugged mountain landscapes and are deep into the heart of the Annapurnas. This is where we’ll begin the ultimate downhill!
Muktinath AnnapurnaWe spend the next 4-days on one of the most exhilarating downhill rides in Nepal. Wind our way down steep single track, rarely used dirt trails and over suspension bridges perched high above the Kali Gandaki through the deepest gorge on earth. We continue our descent, surrounded by the Annapurna Massif and Dhaulagiri. Mountain biking doesn’t get any better than this!
In the evenings, treat yourself to an ice-cold beer or a warming yak butter tea and tuck into a hearty, well-deserved meal. Accommodation is spent in local teahouses in remote villages that dot the paths we use.
Fly amongst eagles as you paraglide high above Pokhara. With the majestic Annapurna’s as your backdrop, this is one of the best places to paraglide in the world! And afterwards…
The day is yours, free to discover, experience and explore this wonderfully laid back town. Hire a boat and relax on the calm waters of Phewa Tal, ramble up to the World Peace Pagoda or treat yourself to a fresh lassi (traditional yoghourt based drink) at one of Pokhara’s many restaurants.
